Admissions at The Laurels Primary School
A very warm welcome to The Laurels Primary School. Choosing the right school for your child is an important decision, and we are delighted that you are considering The Laurels Primary School.
The Laurels Primary School is an academy within the Durrington Multi Academy Trust (DMAT). The Trust is the admission authority for the school. Admissions are coordinated in partnership with West Sussex County Council.
At The Laurels, we believe every child deserves an excellent education and a positive, memorable start to their learning journey. We are proud to provide a nurturing, inclusive environment where children feel safe, valued and inspired to achieve their very best.
We encourage prospective parents and carers to visit the school to experience our welcoming atmosphere, meet our staff and see our children engaged in learning.

Children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) naming the school will be admitted before the oversubscription criteria are applied.
If there are more applications than places available, places will be allocated in the following order:
- Looked after and previously looked after children
- Children living in the Borough of Worthing with a sibling at the school who will still be attending
- Children living outside Worthing with a sibling at the school who will still be attending
- Children living in the Borough of Worthing
- Children of staff employed at the school for at least two years
- All other children
Tie-break: Priority is given to children living closest to the school (straight-line distance). Random allocation is used where distances are equal.
In-Year Admissions
An in-year admission is a request for a place after the start of the academic year or for a year group other than reception.
In-year applications can be made at any time.
- Applications should be made using the West Sussex in-year form
- Forms should be returned directly to the school
- If no place is available, children will be added to a waiting list
- Places are allocated using the oversubscription criteria above
Where no place is available, children will be added to a waiting list. Places are allocated in accordance with the oversubscription criteria and not based on the length of time on the list.
Parents will normally be notified of the outcome of an in-year application within 15 school days.
The school participates in the West Sussex Fair Access Protocol, which ensures that vulnerable children are offered a school place as quickly as possible.
Children with additional needs (without an EHCP) should apply through the standard admissions process.
To apply or arrange a visit, please contact the school office.
Admission Outside Normal Age Group
Parents may request admission outside the normal age group. Each request will be considered individually in the child’s best interests, taking into account their academic, social and emotional development and any relevant professional advice.
Please contact the school before applying.
Appeals
If your child is not offered a place, you have the right to appeal to an independent appeal panel.
Appeals are managed by West Sussex County Council. Information about how to appeal and the appeals timetable can ve found here:
