School Council

Here at The Laurels Primary School, we believe that our children are the most important people and we endeavour to give ALL children lots of opportunities to share their thoughts and opinions and play an active role in the decisions that affect their learning and well-being.

We have lots of ways that the children can do this formally, such as through the school council,  pupil questionnaires and worry boxes. However we also want to create an ethos that allows the children to regularly share their opinions in an informal way, in class and also to Miss Bull. Miss Bull’s door is always open to children (and staff!)

Reading Ambassadors

School Ambassadors

Being a Reading Ambassador is all about reading for pleasure and sharing the deep enjoyment of reading a great book. Our Reading Ambassadors have been chosen for their love of reading and their enthusiasm to share this with others.

Part of the job of a Reading Ambassador is to encourage others in school to read more, and find their own love of reading. There is much research that shows children who read regularly at home perform better at school. As well as being beneficial to learning, it is also lots of fun when you find the right types of books for you!

Being a School Ambassador is all about showing pride in our school and helping others feel welcome and included. Our School Ambassadors are chosen for their positive attitude, reliability, and willingness to represent the student body with confidence and kindness.

As part of their role, School Ambassadors help give tours to parents during open days, represent students at school events, and take on important jobs such as selling raffle tickets or supporting school activities. Whether they’re meeting visitors or helping behind the scenes, our Ambassadors play a key part in making the school a friendly and well-organised place for everyone.

Digital Monitors

Equipment Monitors

Digital monitors are responsible for ensuring our technology, such as computers and tablets, is cared for and left in an orderly way that allows other children to use the equipment. They may also be responsible for supporting our younger children in using the technology, helping them login, use software etc.

Librarians are responsible for the library. They support others in finding books, organising the shelves, returning books to the correct location and generally keeping our library a lovely place to be. Part of this role is also to promote a love and care for books, so a passion for reading is very important.

Equipment monitors are essential to keeping our playground a safe, fun and tidy place to be. They ensure all of our play equipment is put away neatly and kept in good condition so others can continue to enjoy the equipment during play times. This role also helps all of our children to quickly and efficiently return to their learning after break times.
