New COVID 5 day isolation rule
From Monday 17 January 2022, students who test positive for COVID-19 can end their self-isolation after five full days, as long as they test negative with a lateral flow device (LFD) on Day 5 and Day 6 and do not have a temperature.
The day symptoms begin or the day that you test positive is day zero and the next day is day one of your isolation period – see diagram below.
You can take your first LFD test on Day 5. If this is negative, you can take another test 24 hours later on Day 6. If this is also negative, and you do not have a temperature, you can leave isolation immediately and return to school.
The first test must be taken no earlier than Day 5 of the self-isolation period, and the second must be taken the following day.
If you are still positive on your rapid lateral flow tests, you must stay in isolation until you have had two consecutive negative tests taken 24 hours apart.
If you leave self-isolation on or after Day 6, you are strongly advised to wear face coverings and limit close contact with other people in crowded or poorly ventilated spaces and minimise contact with anyone who is at higher risk of severe illness if infected with COVID-19.
Anyone who is unable to take LFD tests or anyone who continues to have a temperature will need to complete the full 10 day period of self-isolation.
